Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops (ILST) is the first step in formal training for youth leaders in a Boy Scout troop. It is designed to be delivered within the troop, led by the Scoutmaster and Senior Patrol Leader. This training covers the basic responsibilities of leadership positions and what a leader must BE, must KNOW, and must DO. Running ILST regularly will help you empower your youth leaders to run a strong troop while growing in confidence and leadership skills. That's a big part of what the Scouting program is supposed to do! By giving our youth leaders training, we set them up to succeed in their jobs.
Every troop should run ILST or something like it. Does yours? Some troops are already running ILST or a related form of junior leader training. That's great! But many others haven't been aware of ILST, or they might be looking for resources to get them started. That's where this special workshop comes in.
The ILST JumpStart! Workshop is one way we can help. This is not an ILST course... it's a "train-the-trainer" workshop where every troop can send a few leaders to learn more about ILST, see pieces of the course in action, and get resources, tips, and ideas to make ILST easier, more fun, and more effective when you go back and run it with your troop. Just as ILST is designed to set every youth leader up to succeed, this JumpStart! workshop is intended to equip every troop with the skills and resources to run their own successful ILST course.
Please join us for a day of hands-on activities, discussion, sharing of ideas, and learning from each other. Here are the details:
- When: Saturday, September 23, 2017 -- 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Sign-in starts at 8:30.
- Where: Camp Squanto, Plymouth (map and directions... don't trust your GPS unless you like sand!)
- Who: Every troop in our council is invited to send up to two youth leaders and two adults. Please send the leaders who are going to teach ILST! This usually means your Scoutmaster and Senior Patrol Leader.
- Lunch: We will feed you!
- Cost: Free
We strongly encourage every troop to send youth and adult leaders to this workshop. ILST works best when the youth and adult trainers are working together with shared goals and resources.
