Campmaster Corps

What is the Campmaster Corps?

The Campmaster Corps is a group of selected, trained, and registered Scouters who serve at council weekend camps whenever Boy Scout Troops, Venturing Crews and Cub Scout Packs are using the Camp property. We serve Camp Squanto, which is located on the east end of Myles Standish State Forest in Plymouth, Massachusetts.

Who are the Campmasters?

Campmasters are selected on the basis of their ability in several areas: outdoor skills, specialized knowledge of nature and conservation, and leadership skills. All Campmasters must have a record of demonstrated ability to get along with people, to lead, and to act in an emergency. All Campmasters must have a working knowledge of Scouting, troop and team operations, Scout advancement, and Webelos Scout camping. Experienced and registered Scouters, with the exception of unit leaders, are eligible for consideration as Campmasters. (It is generally conceded that a unit leader's major concern must be the particular unit served.)

What are the Campmaster's duties?

  1. Check units in upon arrival at Camp and direct them to their cabin or camp site.

  2. Check units out, ensuring that they have cleaned their cabin and/or camp site.

  3. Inform the unit Leaders of any special seasonal requirements that they should be aware of, such as Hunting Season, Fire Conditions, Tick Season and Camp areas off-limits.

  4. Schedule opening of the Camp Trading Post.

  5. Ensure that Camp Regulations are adhered to.

  6. Patrol Camp periodically to ensure that units are staying within their assigned areas and staying out of the off-limits areas.

  7. Promote Long Term Camping to both in Council and out of Council Units.

  8. Assist the Camp Ranger upon request, with Service & Conservation Projects.

  9. Provide Basic First Aid upon request and notify the Ranger of any injuries that require possible transportation to the Hospital.

  10. Provide Camp tours for New and out of Council Units upon request.

  11. Provide maps of Camp and the Nature Trail upon request.

  12. Provide assistance to new units in setting up camp.

Notes for unit leaders
